Plaque Restoration

This plaque was presented to Maurice Nadjari by the District Attorney's Office in 1968 for his years of service. Over time the plaque was damaged and the plug in electric clock stopped working. Restoring this sentimental keepsake for the family was a favorite project.

Everything about this plaque required restoration. The wood finish was dull, the metal plate and badge were tarnished, the badge had come off the plaque, the clock mechanism was completely broken and had to be discarded, the 1960s style clock face and body was broken in several places and its finish was in very bad condition.

Everything had to be removed from the wood. Metal parts were carefully polished and coated to protect them. The wood was sanded, stained and top coated. The clock face was the biggest challenge. It had to be rebuilt and sanded to restore it to its original appearance, primed, painted with gold metalic paint, and finally the numbers painted on.

The original electric clock could not be replaced. A new battery operated clock was installed. A custom made attachment mechanism was created using magnets to hold the clock face in the clock body. The resulting restoration was beautiful.
