Salt Sculpture Repair

During a move this sculpture, actually made of salt, was decapitated by the mover.  It's owner was heartbroken as it had a lot of sentimental value to her. Care had to be taken because typical adhesives might not work and could actually cause more damage to the salt by eroding it or not adhering and so causing the head to fall off again. She knew it might be hopeless but asked me to do what I could.

Unfortunately I forgot to take photos of the sculpture in 2 pieces. Specially formulated adhesive for gluing salt pieces together was obtained (yes there is such a thing!). After waiting over 24 hours for the adhesive to set the bond was tested. It seemed very strong! Now to repair the visible crack...

I created a custom matching filler (secret formula) to carefully fill and blend in the crack. As you can see the damage is almost imperceptible! Needless to say the owner was surprised and extremely happy to have her treasured keepsake back and looking fully restored.
